Packing Tips

Nicholas- Prepare as if the movers will arrive at the end of the drop off window. Be sure that you have all the necessities that you need for a while until the movers get there.
- Never place a light, fragile item in a box with heavy items. If the box is turned upside down for some reason, fragile items will likely get damaged.
- Avoid overfilling a box, especially with heavy items such as books.
- If you plan on leaving boxes in storage for a while, place the contents in a plastic bag to protect against possible water damage and getting a cardboard smell.
- Rent a dolly on moving day to move large boxes and appliances.
- Newspaper is often suggested instead of packing paper to save money, but it’s quite messy and doesn’t protect nearly as well. I would only use newspaper as cushion if all the items in the box were wrapped in packing paper.
- The temptation when packing is to look through some of your old stuff, such as yearbooks, love letters, projects, and so on. Stay on course and focus on getting the job done.
- Never underestimate how much stuff you have.
- Start packing as early as possible, at least 4 weekends in advance. Do a little each day. This is not the time to procrastinate.
- It’s a good idea to make lists of everything that has to get done. Otherwise, you are bound to forget about something important.
- Take your time packing. Get good boxes, labels, black markers, and bubble wrap. Don’t use towels to wrap items, they aren’t very reliable.
- Listen to music to make dreaded tasks more enjoyable.
- Take cleaning items with you in the car so you can clean your house before the movers arrive.
- If you bought a two- story home, unload the boxes that go upstairs first to get the hard part out of the way. Pack these items last so they can be unloaded first.
- If you have a family, make sure everyone helps pack. Assign certain parts of the house to each person.
- At the very least, children should be able to pack their own room. Be sure to instruct them how to pack the right way. Children will likely enjoy having the responsibility and ownership of packing their belongings. Plus, it keeps them busy and it’s a good learning experience for them.
- Invite friends over to pack if you need a hand. You can play music, serve food and drinks, and you’ll be finished much faster.
- Pack one room at a time.
- The weight of each box is best kept at or below 30 pounds; If it’s too heavy, then carrying it is going to be a pain in the rear.
- Pack delicate items together; parts of items should be packed together.
- Tape appliance, stereo equipment, television, and computer operating instructions to the items, or place them all together in one box.
- Candles, CDs, DVDs, records, and tapes are susceptible to heat damage if being moved long-distance. Consider shipping them instead or taking them with.
- To prevent items from shifting, boxes should have little empty space.
- Towels, blankets, and pillows can be used as cushioning.
- Remember to empty filing cabinets
- Pack stuff inside of suitcases; just be sure to make note of it, otherwise you might forget to take those items out.
- Wrap sharp tools and use a lot of cushions. Long-handled tools can be taped together in bundles.
You can search various professional movers and packers in Dubai and hire them to help you with your moving adventures.
